« Back to Glossary Index

large meringue base traditionally filled with fresh fruit, often kiwifruit and strawberries, and whipped cream. May be topped with a fruit sauce. The pavlova dessert was first created in the early 1930s in honour of the ballerina, Anna Pavlova. There is some controversy about whether it originated in Australia or New Zealand.
