or corn (Zea mays) native to North America, and also widely grown in South America, Africa and India. Grains are white, yellow, reddish or black. A staple food in many countries, used to make flour and for animal feed. Also eaten as a vegetable and processed into products such as breakfast cereals, corn syrup, maize corn flour and oil.
