(a) semi-solid, semi-transparent, brightly coloured food made by boiling fruit juices, sugar and gelatine or pectin. Once cooled, it sets and is used in desserts such as trifle, or may be eaten with custard or on its own. Also used for fillings and decorations on cakes and sponges;
(b) seasoned stock added to meat pies to improve eating quality.
