light sweet batter cooked in a waffle iron. Should be soft inside and crispy on the outside. Similar to pancakes in the way that they are made and eaten, but the batter contains less liquid. Eaten hot, usually with syrup and cream or ice-cream, or with fruit toppings. Comes from the Dutch word “wafel”.
