Held annually by the New Zealand Association of Bakers, the Bread Baker of the Year competition celebrates emerging talent from both plant and craft bakeries, recognising bakers who can demonstrate practical skill, technical knowledge, research ability and confidence under pressure.
Over two days, competitors are challenged through practical baking, written baking theory, and a research presentation to industry judges, giving them the chance to test themselves beyond their everyday role and learn from the experience.
The competition also offers valuable career development, industry connections and the opportunity for winners to access a research grant of up to $15,000 to explore new technology, ingredients, processes, product trends or overseas learning.
