Christchurch Bakery makes the best Hot Cross Buns

18 March 2015

Kidd's Cakes and Bakery of Christchurch was named winner of the 2015 Great New Zealand Hot Cross Bun Competition.

This week the Baking Industry Association of New Zealand president, Michael Gray, will present Kidd's Cakes and Bakery owner, Martin Meehan, with a trophy and certificate. In addition the winning bakery also wins a pallet of flour from Farmers Mill.

Kidd's Cakes and Bakery has developed a reputation in baking circles as a champion. In 2014 they won Gold with Distinction at the Bakery of the Year Awards for their 1920s Great Gadsby themed cake. While in 2010 they took out the top honour winning Bakery of the Year.

The BIANZ received an increased number of entries for this year's competition with judging proving very challenging. However the Kidd's Cakes and Bakery entry (pictured) had all the desired qualities with a nice distribution of fruit, light fluffy texture, perfect cross, and above all else, great flavour.
