Luke Rosemergy started bakery work as a part-timer ten years ago. He never planned to be a baker but found himself really enjoying the work, and after two years, when he was offered a full-time position he was happy to take it on. He now supervises 2 crews of 20 people making pressed tortillas and bread products for Breadcraft in Masterton. Luke says he is fascinated by the science behind baking and enjoys the complexity and the technical aspects of his role. He enjoys meeting people through work and the opportunity to see the finished product.
He says he entered the Young Bread Baker of the Year Competition to further his knowledge and to test himself against the other young baker entrants. Luke is interested in research and development and has been developing a product that is now being taken to trial stage. In his spare time Luke is building a race car and will be racing it on the track in the near future.
