Jacob Saunders from Rolleston Bakery finished his Level 3 Baking Apprenticeship in 2015 after being involved in his father’s bakery both part-time and full-time since the age of 12. For the last two years he’s put study on hold and has been working full time building up the reputation of the family business. Jacob says he gets real enjoyment out of seeing the response customers have to his products, and working as part of a small team. He sees baking as a career which will offer employment opportunities wherever he goes. Travelling is on the agenda for Jacob in the future and he says he has no set plans but definitely has the travel bug.
Jacob says he entered the Young Bread Baker of the Year Competition because he sees it as a good opportunity to meet others in the industry and gain experience. When he isn’t working, Jacob is a big fan of sports, playing rugby and social cricket, and enjoys his social life with friends. He says as long as he enjoys what he is doing he knows he is doing the right thing.
