Cookie maker targets fortification breakthroughs
Bakeryandsnacks.com (16/12/08) reported that US based Ambo Foods hopes to continue targeting growing interest in fortified baked snacks with a new range of cookies it claims contain ‘substantial’ levels of omega 3 oil. Whilst the British Nutrition Foundation suggests that fortified baked goods should not be seen as an alternative to dietary staples like vegetables and fish, Ambo Foods hopes to play up the potential health benefits of fortifying products with Omega-3. Despite omega-3 being notoriously difficult to incorporate into formulations, Ambo believe their cookies provide a substantial source of omega-3 in a single serving. The current market for fortified foods containing such ingredients as omega-3 appears to be buoyant as there is a consumer trend for healthy and functional foods.
