Container uses nanoparticles to extend shelf life
Foodproductiondaily.com (11/05/2006) report on a plastic container that uses silver nanoparticles to keep foods fresher longer, which points the way forward for processors wanting to include this technology in their packaging. The new containers are being marketed by Sharper Image, US, who claim the container keeps foods fresher 3-4 times longer than normal. Bread is one food that can be stored in the containers, with positive results as colour, flavour and nutritional values last longer. The containers are made from air and odor impermeable polypropylene with an airtight silicone -gasket locking system.
